      James Nelson. James Nelson has served as a seaman, rigger, boatswain and officer on a number of sailing vessels. His novel Glory in the Name: A Novel of the Confederate Navy was the winner of the American Library Association's W.Y. Boyd Award for Excellence in Military Fiction. He is also the author of the five books comprising The Revolution at Sea Saga and The Brethren of the Coast trilogy. Two years before writing the screenplay for the film, Inge wrote Glory in the Flower (), a stage play whose title comes from the same line of the Wordsworth poem. The play relates the story of two middle-aged, former lovers who meet again briefly at a diner after a long estrangement; they are essentially the same characters as Bud and Deanie, though the names are Bus and by: David Amram.
